Education
Kindergarten
If you love working with small children and have a strong desire to learn Hebrew, then the kindergarten is the best way to go about this! Because the children speak in very basic and simple Hebrew, you are learning right along with them! Combine this with ulpan and it's a perfect combination. Help with arts & crafts, teaching English through reading and singing songs... anything you do to spend time with these children is greatly appreciated and the big hugs you receive with the huge toothy grins at the end of the day really make you feel at home here.
Pre-school for Special Needs
At this special pre-school, children aged 4-7 years old have a range of disabilities that range from mild to severe stages. The only language spoken is Hebrew, so a basic level is needed but volunteers can pick up very quickly. Teaching English and spending time with the children and their teachers is the perfect way for anyone interested in social and education work to utilize their skills.
Amal High School
This technical high school is in great need of native English speakers to help their students prepare for their matriculation exams (bagrut) and also to give the swollen classroom's teacher's some help with their overwhelming amount of students. For half an hour, you will assist the teacher in various teaching activities and from there you'll be able to take the students out one by one and have personal tutoring sessions with a focus on "free-talk" which the students love because they say their teaching is "boring!" All the students are very welcoming and grateful and it's a great way to learn about all the different cultures (Jewish, Arabic, Ethiopian, Christian, etc) that converge in the town of Ramla.
Sheret Elementary School
This school which focuses on having volunteers tutor English to their 4th through 6th graders is a great way to help young children improve their speaking and writing skills.
